Belmont's English department consists of approximately twenty dedicated teachers who aim to develop the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills of their students through the use of AVID's Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Reading and Presentation (WICR-P) strategies. Our department chairperson is Carmen Juarez, the literacy coach is Sunny Keaton, and the AP in charge of English is Dalton Cole. The focus of the English department professional development meetings is to improve instruction through lesson studies of "best practices" that incorporate WICR-P. We are very proud of our improved CAHSEE pass rate and the rise in our CST scores.
